The local folklore is influenced by the border of two regions - Spiš and Podhalie (Poland) with distinctive Goral music of violin and double bass combined with authentic dance. When a man asks musicians to play his favourite song and offers his hand to dance with a woman is an extremely vibrant spectacle, as is when men or boys perform the highwayman's dance or play original shepherd's games. By contrast the wedding dance "Ruvny" is very slow and respectable. The folklore group Goral regularly perform such dances accompanied by Goral songs and music, in particular at the Goral folklore festival (Goralské folklórne slávnosti) which takes place every year on the second Sunday of August. The children's folklore ensemble Ždiaranček practise at the Ždiar primary school.
